Smoke on the Waters Drive

An Autumn Drive

On the evening of 21 October, the Westcountry Porsche Drivers Club gathered for scenic drive. Starting in Bovey Tracey, we embarked on a journey through the Teign Valley, winding our way towards Smoke on the Waters in Umberleigh for a well-earned BBQ feast.
The day’s rain cleared just in time for the start of the drive, being replaced by glorious Autumn sun. Our route took us through Moretonhampstead, where the narrow roads and rolling hills began to reveal the true beauty of Dartmoor. As we continued towards Okehampton, the countryside opened up, the moorland stretching far and wide—a perfect backdrop for a convoy of Porsches.

The A386 towards Great Torrington is an excellent road with undulating straights interspersed with fast sweeping bends, allowing easy overtakes and rapid progress.
Arriving at Smoke on the Waters, we were greeted by the smoky scent of the BBQ. The food was a perfect end to the drive—succulent meats, fresh sides, and that unmistakable warmth that only a great BBQ can offer. It was great to meet Jack and David for their first club drive, hope to see you both again soon.
